The fast ferry LILLEØRE is canceling all departures between Sælvig and Aarhus from Saturday, February 7th until Tuesday, February 10th due to ice at the ferry berth in the Port of Aarhus.
The fast ferry LILLEØRE will be on a test voyage later this afternoon, Friday, off Grenaa, and then the plan was for LILLEØRE to make a test call in Aarhus based on the ice situation. It was scheduled for deployment on Saturday, February 7th, which will not happen.
Next to the ferry berth at DOKK1, the Aarhus River flows out, the outlet and the water from there is fresh, and therefore freezes more easily than salt water. Now the wind has died down and therefore the water freezes more easily into ice.
In recent days, we have had tugboats from the Port of Aarhus break the ice in front of our ferry berth at DOKK1, every time they depart or arrive from another tow. This is a great service from the Port of Aarhus, and they have also taken pictures of the ice and sent them to us.
The pictures from today show large ice flakes that will damage the paint on the ferry, and it is therefore not responsible to sail into the berth at DOKK1 based on this.
LILLEØRE is therefore sailing home to Sælvig today after the test voyage, where the ice situation is significantly better.
We are continuously assessing the situation and will make an announcement again on Tuesday, February 10th around noon regarding the possibility of resuming sailing with LILLEØRE.
The Sælvig – Hou route with PRINSESSE ISABELLA is not affected by the ice.
All tickets for the affected departures will be cancelled and refunded automatically.
A commuter service will be introduced for pedestrians on Monday, February 9th and Tuesday, February 10th at 6:45 a.m. from Hou, and from the ferry berth at Dokk1 in Aarhus at 16:00. Registration is required no later than the day before at 14:00 by email to tilsamsoe@samsoe.dk or by phone at 70225900. It is not possible to take a bicycle on the commuter bus.
We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause you.
Kind regards,
Samsø Rederi
